I have seen your post with regard to compilation. I hope you meant that. But I 
can't remove rpms sane-backends and libsane1 because of dependency problems. 
Further it didn't say, anything about modprobing parallel port automatically. 
Can you reply on what distro you installed src files. Whether you have 
removed old sane-backends and libsane1. If so how?
