Uhm... on my box (with Mandrake 9.0) only xsane and the gimp plug-in need sane... anyway; I had to compile from source even them to make my scanner works... I still have kooka installed from rpm, and not working; xscanimage, compiled from tar.gz, does. Elsewere I saw reccomendation to uninstall rpms; I must say I didn't! :-) I realized just later I previously reinstalled rpms, but I didn't remember! So, I still have sane-backends from rpm... Sane and xsane are located in my home directory and working very well :) Smiley
