short thunk, when power is first applied, 1, 2 seconds and then thunggg.

in powering off, there would be no thunggg as there is no need to degauss

Your've got it. that is how it is,
ok, just to be sure, as i believe a 100% clarity is needed to be sure to
point you in correct direction.

thunk is relay, thunk is a less than a second.

thunggg is degaussing coil, thunggg is more than a second.

also put as, thunk takes longer to think or say than actual sound, while
thunggg is as long as thinking it or saying it.

1 - from a cold start, power is applied, first sound is a thunk, short pause,
then thunggg. power down is a thunk and no thunggg.

2 - when monitor blinks on it's own, it is a thunk, followed by another thunk,
then thunggg.

ok but would i be able to feel this excessive heat around the monitor
casing, because if so, it's not hot at all, cann't say I feel any sensation
of normal ambient temperature.
not necessarily. as sensitive as we humans are, we are not a thermometer. if
you want to measure temperature, use a thermometer, start with a cold monitor
and measure ambient room temp with a second.

Oh, the M9.0 is running on nvidia's own, but M9.1beta3 is on
open source drivers. I'm not really suspecting drivers.
drivers could cause problem if they are not meeting oem specs. as i said before,
linux drivers do need improving. a driver being off in any direction could cause
a heat build up and reason for dropping to a low res setting.

as for m 9.0 and m 9.1b3, is blanking out happening in both?

also, what happens when you disable screen time out?

now, another reason for asking you to drop to lower resolution, what happens
when you are out of x and at command line? does monitor still blank out on you?

if not, then it is a problem with drivers and resolution. hi res causes higher
current and more heat. tho, monitor power supply could be shutting down due to
excess current and not an internal heat build up.

monitor uses a switching power supply and a switching power supply will shut
down when currents exceed rating.
