I hate Compaq! I've done a couple of installs on them, and they pretty much suck. Installation wasn't really the problem, the hardware they use isn't very good, and Linux does not like marginal hardware. Probably the worst install I've ever done was 9.1 on a Compaq laptop--it is now working, but I call it the "Install from Hell". e.
