Both work in conjunction with fetchmail (as MTA). I believe Pine can retrieve POP mail directly, but not certain it can handle more than one account. I'm not certain Mutt can dirctly retrieve from a POP server. Elm is supposed to be very good also, but I've never tried that one. I liked using both Mutt and Pine, but now use Sylpheed, an excellent gui MUA.
