I don't know if I know enough to help, but I installed an S3 with 1mb video card onto a i810e motherboard with integrated video card, without being able to disable the i810 video accelerator that my installation on Mandrake 7.2 and earlier versions of redhat just froze.
Did you have another video accelerator on board? if so, were you be able to disable it?
