Though there are other factors involved this operation in basicly handled by /etc/initab and can have only 1 default entry which is the run level to which the system will always boot, it can either be to X or 1 of the h other run levels. To drop to single user mode from the GUI login, Alt+Ctrl+F1-F4, login as root and run init3, to return and restart the X server init5. Charles
