Swap gets re-initialized at boot so you don't need a separate swap for each
distro. You're correct in assuming that one partition can be shared. You could
even share your /home partition if it's an ext2. It will be a little trickier
if you've got a jfs installed, although you could always build on a temporary
/home then recompile to support whatever jfs you're using.
