Unfortunately, twigging some of my hardware got to be annoying and that's why I went back to Mandrake. I am an absolute suck about having to fart around with hardware config, even though I'll edit system config files until the cows come home. I'll tell you, though. Whenever I set up my server, I'm going the LFS root--compile everything for maximum control and security. Anyway, you can't beat the experience. Having built a distro from the ground up, you'll be much more confident when you approach any of the "packaged" distributions. - C P.S. If you really want to geek out, may I suggest getting a copy of O'Reilly's Unix Power Tools. It ain't cheap but it walks you through almost every aspect of a typical Unix os. You'll be programming sed fer gossakes!
