Well, you could put a mirror with the 8.2 packages on your update list 
with Software Manager, and check what you want to update and do that 
until you are at 8.2, but that would be a painful experience, though it 
would (eventually) work.  Software manager installs groups of packages 
that require or depend on each other much like apt-get.  Another and 
better way is to find a mirror that has the 8,2 packages and look in 
/images and download

network.img

then

dd if=network.img of=/dev/fd0

and boot from that floppy, once again identifying the site and the 
directory that has the Mandrake RPMS as your source.  You can then 
install or update as you choose, and you can select additional packages, 
but all your currently installed packages would be updated. (Except the 
kernel which would be installed.)
