A few days ago I promised to keep you informed on the sad state of
affairs in Europe :
As you'll recall, Danish Sec.Trade, Mr. Bendtsen, ignored a
parliamentary order mandating him to reject the EU Commission's
proposed directive on software patents, US-style. Accordingly,
today he was called to explain himself at a hearing in Parliament.
Everybody expected him to get sacked because the entire opposition,
including a political party normally supporting the Govt. accused
him of betrayal.
Nevertheless, he got off the hook by one vote. His savior was a
politician named S. Auken, who is a prominent member of the
so-called Social Democrats - a party who's name doesn't in any
respect whatsoever reflect it's agenda and has a century-long
history of corruption, fraud and treason. Including high treason.
So now, the Patents Directive stands. There is no chance the EU
Parliament will reject or amend it. Why not ?
First and foremost the EU Parliament is nothing but a Mickey Mouse
parliament. The overwhelming majority of EU-MP's are former
national MP's who's incompetence made them annoyances at home.
Secondly, in order to reject or amend something to the Directive,
the EU Parliament has to vote with an absolute majority of all
seats, not only members actually present. And those members aren't
renowned for their attendance. Furthermore, I'll bet a full
casket of fine beer that the ballot will be scheduled some Saturday
afternoon - when most MP's are either at home or drunk. Probably
both.
So from now on, European software developers better sell their
computers and start becoming lawyers...
My only comfort in this misery is the upcoming referendum on the EU
"Constitution". I certainly hope the French, the Dutch, the Danes
and the Brits will give those EUdiots a bloody nose.
Why must we always fight so bitterly for freedom...?
Kaj Haulrich.
