[newbie] Printer not working

Since attempting to use mtink the other evening to checkp cartridge 
levels, printer no longer prints.  I uninstalled and reinstalled it, but 
nothing happens.

mtink says " Problems with printer communication, please check printer 
for errors: "out of paper", "no ink", "printer not powered".  It may be 
I need a new cartridge I guess ...

But does anyone else have any ideas.
