full. It is ether that, or burn a LOT slower to insure this. This is
because of some changes to the kernel that prevent user-space programs
from changing some settings. I think this was to prevent userspace
programs from being able to slow the machine to a crawl. the downside is
that it hampers programs like k3b when run as a normal user. There is a
kernel patch to get around this, but then you open yourself up to the
same problmes the change was made to correct.

What is needed is a program that does the actual burning that is suid
root. (Sets the User ID to root when the program is run.) The problem
here is that the program needs to be verry limmited in function so that
it can not be used to break system security. Writing programs that can
be run by normal users, with root access is not an easy thing!
