Yes it Is.
The problem is in the firmware of Lucky Goldstar CD-ROM drives.

The fault is due to LG not conforming to standards and misinterpreting the 
probe Mandrake 9.2 makes to detect if it is a CD writer as a command to wipe 
the firmware.
