Dumb question - Is the "beacon" turned off on your wireless access point
(router)? If so, you will need to supply the essid of the access point
before you can connect to it. This is a fairly common security mesure to
make it harder for strangers to connect. (It doesn't stop them, it just
slows them down a bit. Kind of like locking your doors.)
