It sounds like you have "DEVICE=eth0" instead of "DEVICE=wlan0", so it is using hte wrong device.
It is also possible that wlan0 is not the correct device, depending on what network device is created by the driver. If I remember correctly, running "/sbin/ifconfig -a" will show all the interfaces.
