OK, I'm about ready to tear my hair out. I've just installed 2005LE and there seems to be no decent packages around for it.
I want to install gEDA - several packages in one suite, all built from source and several dependencies... so I need checkinstall. No surprise that there's no checkinstall rpm; IIRC I built it from source the last time. But now the first time I use it it fails, telling me to install rpm-build. urpmi refused to install rpm-build because it had never heard of it. The rpm version with 2005LE is 4.2.3, which is several versions newer than I found at www.rpm.org. I found a 4.2.3 rpm of rpm-build, but it needs automake. urpmi knows about automake, but it wants autoconf. Autoconf is an unknown package according to urpmi (WTF? autoconf!? And yes I have gone to easyurpmi and set up everything.) Eventually I ended up compiling them both from source. Now rpm-build still complains because it wants automake version 1, and I've got version 2. 1. Is there an rpm of rpm-build for 2005LE? 2. Are there any rpms at all for 2005LE? 3. Have I got something misconfigured? 4. Failing .1.
