Have you filled in the user information? Ident isn't needed to use freenode, but it is on some IRC networks. And there are a lot of IRC networks dedicated to different uses and with different philosophies. I am guessing you didn't fill in your user info correctly. Have you filled in your nick choices, user name, and real name? You don't need real names for the last two, but others will see them, so pick something reasonable. If you are an IRC rookie, a Google search on IRC tutorials and what's going on there will really help a lot. Rick Kunath
