I am trying to install 2006 RC2 on an older PC. I goal is to run
IceWm or another lightweight wm that will allow the PC to become usable
again. It is an older Gateway with a 500 MHz And K6-2 with
256Megs of Ram - * are shared with a Trident CyberBlade on-board
video. The monitor is a KDS (Wal-Mart cheap) 17 in. I have
installed root and one user. The system locks after boot.
When I say locked, a text based login screen appears, no matter what
username I put in it never goes to the password step. It always
goes back to the login. I can boot in fail safe.
Running drakconf - video I get an error whenever I try the test.
I have tried various resolution settings and various monitor
settings. It was suggested on #mandriva that I try knoppix and
see if that does better at setting up the video and capturing those
settings. I thought that I should post this to the group while I
am at work so that I can have something to go with when I get
home. Thanks.
