I have just acquired a Panasonic Camcorder which has an SD flash card
for stills, and in theory can download via USB port. I am trying to
load
to an Acer laptop, currently with 2006-RC2 installed
(kernel-2.6.12-12mdk-i686-up-4GB) From what I have read, plugging in
the usb cable should bring up a "drive" as /mnt/removable. But it
doesn't happen. Certainly on that other so-called operating system, it
shows as a "mass-storage device".
I started of with 2005-LE with 2.6.11 kernel, then loaded 2.6.12 then
tried loading 2006-RC2.
Do you have the following services running ?
hal
messagebus
udev
And installed : gnome.volume-manager ?
Kaj Haulrich.
And just in case: have you turned the camera on once plugged in ?
Thank you for the responses
Yes, I have tried turning camera off & on, booting with camera
connected, plugging and unplugging usb cable.
MCC Services shows haldaemon and messagebus running,
ps ax |grep udev
946 ? S<s 0:00 udevd -d
urpmi shows gnome-volume-manager everything installed.

Well I'm only a newbie here but Kaj's reply needs to be addressed as it
appears to me that your udev is broke somehow ?????
