One further tip...
Power cycle the cable modem. In other words turn it off for a minute or two,
then power it up and let it re-connect with the cable internet, then power up
the router, let that boot up, and finally at your pleasure fire up your
machines.
Some providers register the MAC address of the first machine connected, and a
power off of the modem usually resets this.
