You should be able to install slocate or just run updatedb. I would also make sure that anacron is running so that the database gets update periodically.

Tried running updatedb, and got smacked for trying to make a database without permission. Tried running slocate, downloading slocate, installing slocate : nuffin but alligators.
Mandrake 10.1 and Kanotix had file finders that worked.
Even MicroKlutz XP has file finder.

Gnome-find not found.
Urpmi remains inscrutable.
Followed recent advice to disable disc as urpmi source.  That worked.
This love/hate thing with linux is wearing me down.
