$urpmi gcc
That seemed to go OK, so,

[EMAIL PROTECTED] par]# rpm -q gcc

but this one (3.3.2) did not work the last time.

Next, compilation, with a new error msg:
gcc:installation problem, cannot exec 'cc1plus': No such file or directory

I am *sweating*, it seems to be quite a riddle to find a gcc compiler
for 10.0!
But thanks anyway for all help, I am getting the routine to install
software now, which is a good thing.

What puzzles me is that installing 3.4.1 gave the same (previoiusly
reported) error message.
So what on earth can this be? Do I have to updrade from 10.0 after all?
Any fresh ideas??

Yes. Don't sweat. The file cc1plus is in the package "gccx.xx-c++" (where x is your version number.)

Open your software installer, search for gcc and you'll find it easily. If you display "maximum information", you will see the file. Install the package.

Kaj Haulrich.
The installation went through. But I am now back to the previous error message, the cryptic one
related to the .../tmp directory.
It seems that I am stuck. What I am to do now is quite unclear to me, maybe upgrading to the current
Mandriva, or maybe go back to RedHat and download and install Fedora.
I am really still sweating. It seems to be a good point that my 10.0 is too old.
