I've heard that that 'invalid compressed format' could be because
the kernel has been corrupted. If I could replace the file 'vmlinuz-2.6.11-6mdk'
in the boot directory it might just work?
I don't have a way of installing a new kernel rpm and I can't find this file either
on my Mandriva boot disks or on the net. If anyone thinks it could work and
has the file could they send me a copy?
Cheers.

Hi Ian,

when I press tab at grub and then try to load failsafe I get:

'BIOS data check succssful
uncompressing Linux
invalid compressed format (er=2)
system halted'

It was working perfectly last night, then try to bootup this morning to this!

A little more detail would help.
What happens in the boot sequence, any errors shown, when does the boot stop,
do you end up with a prompt?
