Try Fedora (or RedHat), Ubuntu, UserLinux, Debian, and SUSE. All of
these I've heard are good in the area of "user friendliness." See
which one best fits your needs. I'm using Fedora right now and I plan
to give Ubuntu and then SUSE a test run.

yep, I just downloaded the x86_64 versions of FC4 and SuSe 10. I will
be sure to remember to let you all know how they work....
Well, not wanting to throw in too much of a curved ball, but I have
worked with Redhat/Fedora, Debian and SUSE quite a lot. Quite honestly,
the point that everyone is missing here is that ALL distros suck if you
don't put a bit of effort into them. Despite the "corporate" mentality
of Mandriva, the distro is as good if not better than SUSe and Fedora
when it comes to Administrative tools. Believe me, SUSe's YAST is
great, until you try to use it to change the setup of your Apache
server, then you might as well uninstall Apache and reload it, the
config files get screwed so much.
I'll admit I haven't played around with FC4 much. I am about to install
it on a spare partition I have, but FC3 and FC2 didn't impress me much.
Ubuntu is very impressive, but I am yet to be convinced that it is for
me. I would recommend it to newbies anytime, though - version 5.10 is
very good.
I shall stick with Mandr* for the moment.
