Don't forget YUM :-)

But now something that could actually help...
I do clean installs of new distro versions then compare my old config
files with the new ones and make sure that there are no major
incompatibilities before hand.  If I do find something that could be a
problem I can still use my old files as reference for setting up the
same configuration with the new files.  This is especially usefull if
you end up switching distros.
