well, to see if somehow the binary is there,
try the full path, to find the full path, in a terminal, type
$ whereis fortune
fortune: /usr/games/fortune /usr/share/man/man6/fortune.6.bz2
thats where mine is.
Mine is the same.
Then type the full path,
$ /usr/games/fortune
When I do this, I just a command prompt back, with no error message.
also, check the file itself:
$ ls -l /usr/games/fortune
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 17K Jun 7 2004 fortune
OK, this is revealing. I seem to have a zero-byte file for fortune. I
am not sure how I managed to do that, but I must have done *something*.<g>
I will try to reinstall fortune and see if that takes care of it.
Also, I think you missed my last reply about the sig you see below. I
am currently writing this on a Windows machine using other software.
My goal for 2006 is to move off of Windows, and I picked e-mail as
step one in that process. So I have a perfectly good Windows program
for managing my sigs, but I want to have one in Linux, and when I do
that I will start moving my e-mail accounts over there.
Thank you,
