So, for the complete dummy who owns no wireless 'things', or has any attached to his PC, and to get things straight in my head (I am a complete wireless newbie!):

If I get the wireless Squeezebox AND a wireless device (USB/PCI card) to plug into my PC, then this'll work as a complete wireless network? There appears to be an ethernet socket on the back (it says it is 802.11b/g compliant) which can neatly plug into my Cablecom box (my internet provider).

Or do I need other bits 'n' pieces?

I apologise if these are somewhat dumb questions!

Many thanks, Andy

It is "just" a wireless music player but it can also be used as a bridge. You will still need a wireless access point but these are so cheap these days that it should not even be a factor.

This looks interesting. Just a quick (silly) question - can this be used as a wireless (LAN) network device too (i.e., can it access the internet, etc), or is it just a wireless music player?

Thanks, Andy

Take a look at the Squeezebox, http://www.slimdevices.com

I am using 3 of these devices spread around the house.

It uses an open source server which runs on Linux, OS X and Windows.

Dear all,

I VERY MUCH like the idea of being able to play music over a wireless connection. I have come across only 2 products though (surely there are more?). Logitech's Wireless Music System and Apple's AirPort Express.

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/CH/EN,CRID=2416,CONTENTID=10855 http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/72504/wo/lR3i5yob2YTY2QV6hG02aL21WHn/1.SLID?mco=7D88DA55&nplm=M9470LL%2FA

I quite like the idea of AirPort Express as it can be used as a wireless network too.

Has anyone got these products to work (I've briefly read something about raop_play: http://raop-play.sourceforge.net)?

Can anyone make any recommendations as to other products that will do the job just as good/better and is supported in one way shape or form?
