Thanks for both the pointers. 

Interestingly, I already had KLvemkdvd installed. Maybe I just ran out of time 
to figure it out (this was a while ago, so entropy has removed most of the 
details from my memory).

When I get a chance I'll play with these and see what they can do. Starting 
with KLvemkdvd, since it's already installed (and available as Mandriva 
rpms). If that doesn't work out, I'll try tovid (which I guess I'll have to 
build from source).
