No that's right. I'm still going back to the bad CD thing. If you got a
good connection, patience, and willingness to do it without burning 3
more CDs, there is a net install boot.iso (use a find) file. Find a
Winblows utility to burn ISOs then burn that. You could even use the CDs
as a source instead of a download as the RPMs are all there.

Hi,
It looks like that the CD1 in the torrent is messed up. It seems that
he hdlists file is in the correct place but its contents is not the
same as in the mirror
"ftp://ftp.cise.ufl.edu/pub/mirrors/mandrake/Mandrakelinux/official/2006.0/i586/media/media_info/hdlists".
The contents of the hdlists file on the mirror is:
hdlist_main.cz media/main Main (3400m)
noauto:hdlist_main.src.cz ../SRPMS/main Main Sources
hdlist_contrib.cz media/contrib Contrib (4300m)
noauto:hdlist_contrib.src.cz ../SRPMS/contrib Contrib Sources
noauto:hdlist_jpackage.cz media/jpackage Jpackage (360m)
noauto:hdlist_jpackage.src.cz ../SRPMS/jpackage Jpackage Sources
The torrented hdlists file contains:
suppl
askmedia
hdlist1.cz media/main Installation Free CD1 (547m)
hdlist2.cz media/main2 Installation Free CD2 (694m)
hdlist3.cz media/main3 Installation Free CD3 (695m)
Should there be such a discrepancy?
Thanx,

Hi,
Yes the inability to boot from CD is probably caused by improper
burning of the CD. I could not burn the ISO files directly, I had to
extract the files and directories and then burn them. That caused the
loss of boot sectors. But I got over that by booting from the floppy
instead. The install process went fine until the stage in which it
could not find the hdlists file. When I checked the CD1 the file was
on the CD1 at "D:\media\media_info\hdlists". What could be wrong and
how can I go round it?
Thanx, Ayoub

Just making a few assumptions, sounds like you didn't burn the ISOs
right. I can't remember what I used but you can google "burn ISO"
and it should return something (w\o ""'s.)

Hi,
I torrented down the three free Mandriva 2006 CDs. The system would
not install from CD1 so I and made an install floppy and attempted
to use it to install from CD1. I got to the point to when it tried
to install packages but it came back with the message that the
hdlists file was missing.
I inspected the CD1 and found that the hdlists file existed in the
following directory "D:\media\media_info\hdlists"
What could be the problem and how can I go round it?
Thanx,
Ayoub
