Is there a way out of this?

First, see if you have other source locations defined in MCC or RPMDrake. If not, add the default ones from Mandriva and make sure you get the hdlist files for those locations. Probably a good idea to remove the Hawkwind site for the time being. You can comment it out using the '#' sign at the front of the lines that refer to Hawkwind's site by editing the /etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg file

Second, use the CLI to remove the kernel-source rom that you have now.

"urpme kernel-source'

Once that's done, install the one you want by typing the following;

"urpmi kernel-" and press the TAB key once or twice - it should bring up a list of available ones from the Mandriva sites.

Pick the one you want - they may end up being referenced by numbers - select the number of the one you want. If numbers are not given, complete the urpmi command by typing in the exact name of the one you want - ie;

urpmi kernel-source-2.6.12-12mdk

Press the Enter key.

Once it's installed, add a kernel that matches your new kernel-source package - ie;

urpmi kernel-2.6.12-12mdk

Once that's done, run the following command;

lilo -v

then to make absolutely sure, open MCC, go to the Boot section and double check the boot config. If you want to, make the new kernel your default, finish the Lilo setup and reboot with the new kernel.

Once you've rebooted, reopen MCC and the Boot section, remove all references to the 2.6.14 kernel, finish the Lilo config, open a console as root and rerun 'lilo -v'.

Once completed, use either urpme or RPMDrake to remove the 2.6.14 kernel you have and rerun 'lilo -v' one more time - it never hurts to be cautious.

Now, re-install the NVidia kernel or use dkms to built a kernel module for your newly installed kernel and kernel-source.

Re-Run XFDrake, check to see that /etc/X11/xorg.conf is using the 'nvidia' module and not the 'nv' module.

Do the '3-finger-Salute' (CTRL+ALT+Backspace) and you should see the NVidia Logo page as usual.

Enjoy, knowing that you are now a master of kernel management. Make sure you quaff a pint of GOOD ale in celebration. Not that 'Bud' or 'Miller' stuff, but a good pint of Guinness or something.
