Hi all, I'm considering upgrading to a x64 machine after seeing a rather nice deal on tiger. The mobo would be an Asus A8N-SLI NVIDIA Socket 939 ATX, and CPU AMD Athlon 64 3200+. Video card will have to come later but will obviously be something nvidia. I'm kind of unfamiliar with 64-bit computing and even more unfamiliar with the task on Linux. But as I understand it, you need three things to take advantage of 64-bt: 64 bit OS, 64 bit device drivers, and 64 bit applications.
Mandriva has a 64 OS, so that's cleared. 64 bit applications will probably be more common in the future... But, it is the device drivers that I am concerned about. I see nvidia offers 64-bit drivers for Linux. However, I am not sure about ASUS... 1) Will I need and do any of you know if ASUS offers 64 bit linux drivers? The site appears to be down at the moment, but maybe some of you have expereince. 2) Should I even bother with 64-bit? Do any of you run Mandriva's 64-bit version and what is your feedback? 3) Any other thoughts you guys would like to add on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
