[newbie] cdrecord wont die!!:
For processes that won't die with a regular kill, go to the command line
and do:
kill -9 <pid>...
A regular kill asks the process to shut itself down, but if it's hung, it
wont' respond. The -9 option tells the system to shut the process down
without asking it. This almost always works, though I have had the rare
time when I've had to reboot to kill a really stubborn process.
True, but if you don't like rebooting there's an easier option, viz. su to
root and command 'init 1'. Although I've seen also that cdrecord wouldn't
succumb to anything. (If it does kill the process just return to X with
'init 5' and you're back up).
