For now you might, mine doesn't automount either, but
gnome-volume-manager is supposed to handle the automounting.
The line in fstab will be replaced since fstab-sync
will update it each time you plugin the device, after it reads an
event from the hal daemon ... That page I posted has some
troubleshooting advice, take a look at whether it's running:
# ps aux | grep gnome-volume-manager
So making sure that gnome-volume-manager is working for me now, it
did automount my Lexar thumbdrive ...
So give that a try,
