The line in fstab will be replaced since fstab-sync
will update it each time you plugin the device, after it reads an
event from the hal daemon ... That page I posted has some
troubleshooting advice, take a look at whether it's running:
# ps aux | grep gnome-volume-manager
To clarify, if the gnome-volume-manager is running, it should
automount the thumbdrive, if not, then use the page I posted to
trouble shoot a possible solution.
So making sure that gnome-volume-manager is working for me now, it
did automount my Lexar thumbdrive ...

Hi Rick-
After much searching and reading, I've got the auto-mount working.
I had gnome-volume-manager installed but not running; it wouldn't start.
Turns out my hald and dbus RPMs were from SoS, and some users (not all)
have problems with them. I removed all hal RPMs and dbus RPMs and
replaced them with official MDV RPMs, rebooted, now gvm is running and
the Sandisk auto-magically shows up in devices.
rpm -qa | grep hal
rpm -qa | grep dbus
these commands gave all the packages and indicated which were SoS, and
which were mdv.
rpm -e --nodeps hal-whatever.SoS
urpmi hal
I had used some of the SoS RPMs a while ago, had trouble back then with
them, and removed SoS from my sources. Guess I've still got a couple
stragglers lurking.
Thanks for all your help and input.
