Hi there.
I am a totally newbie in Mandriva and Linux affairs. I´m migrating from
MS-Windows to Mandriva Linux Powerpack 2007 and have a lot of headaches
with drivers. However I consider that as part of the learning curve.
I have a Benq 5000 flatbed scanner, but Mandriva recognize it as a Acer
FlatBedScanner22. I had tried to change the configuration to Benq 5000
(Mandriva has it in it´s scanners list) but untill now I only have
gotten
frustation. I had also looked for an answer in Mandriva Forum but I
have
not found anything usefull.
Any ideas? In my case step by step help will be necesary.
Thanks in advance.
Luis

where (in what software program) are you seeing "Mandriva recognize it
as a Acer FlatBedScanner22"
do you have sane installed?
have you edited snapscan.conf to reflect the location of the correct
firmware file (*.bin) from the windows install disk or install location?

I´m seeing the "Acer FlatBedScanner22" at "Mandriva Linux Control
Center => Hardware => Set up scanner => Add a scanner manually" I also
see sometimes a "Noname unknown/generic virtual device" message.
I have SANE installed. In /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf is a reference to
the firmware that came with the windows CD of my Benq 5000 flat
scanner. The reference is to /usr/share/sane/firmware/20F8U115.bin . I
confirmed the bin file that comes with the windows installation CD is
there.
There is also a reference in the snapscan.conf to the Benq 5000
scanner. The lines are:
# Benq 5000
usb 0x04a5 0x20fc
I have no idea what those references are for.
I still can not scan. Which is the next step?
Thanks, Luis

what are the permissions in that folder?
also, what program are you hoping to scan from? how do you start that
program? what happens if you type in a console "xsane" does it give any
errors? (without the quotes, of course) how about when you try as root?
how about "usbview" ("urpmi usbveiw" if not installed)
also, are you SURE the letters in the filename are the same case in both
the file folder and snapscan.conf?? capitalization makes a difference in
linux,,, 20F8U115.bin is not the same file as 20f8u115.bin, and will not
be found.
