my bet is the problem is more from well worn cd reader or writer drive
spindle wear and the difference between the 2 (reader and writer drives).
I agree with Harm, if you had moved the CD reader that was able to
install to the box that could not install, your problem may have moved
 with the CD reader.

Just graspings straws there but it's worth a try, eh?

In my case the CD's were burned on 2 different drives as burning 6 CD's takes a long time with just 1 drive. One a thinkpad T40 shouldn't be that worn allready but could be. The other is a drive that's just a few months old. The (in my case) apparrently faulty CD was burned with the latter.

The DVD was burned with an even newer double layer burner on yet another box. So that checks off the well worn drives......as well there are no problems with Mandy-one with any of the drives used as a burner.

Methinks there's more afoot with the CD's (i.e. installer) than meets the eyes. Hope it doesn't backfire on Mandy with this world-wide install fest thingy. It would be typical of them not to have a listening ear on the lists directly after a club release and move head-on into disaster.

My advise to the install festers: Go with the Mandy One CD's and show off how easy one can install packages from the net later. You'll need lpf packages anyway, as you can't send people home with a box that can't read encrypted DVD's. That really would be a show stopper for new adverts chasing 'em back to Winders.
I gotta agree, but I might offer the boot.iso for whatever arch. saves downloading a whole slew of files you will never use. have you tried that yet? about a 13 meg download, starts the installer, then ftp install from the mirrors of your choice, (just no PLF until after install) only downloading what you want to install.
