I cannot remeber what chipset the Asus P5B had but I know that I recently
purchased a Intel 965 chipset motherboard and had the same problem. According
to my research intel has changed the way the P-ATA controller is integrated
into the northbridge and this causes the kernel not to recognize any P-ATA
device located on those ports. The only solution I could find was to

1) Install off of an USB CD-ROM
2) Install off of ftp
3) ...or try any other installation method that is not P-ATA CD-ROM

You can still at least boot from the CD-ROM so there is no need to create boot
floppies.

I hope this info helps

Kind Regards

Subject: [newbie] ASUS P5B/JMicron installation issue of Mandriva 2007

Hello,

I've a new mainboard, ASUS P5B with JMicron controller.
I can't install Mandriva 2007 (with kernel 2.6.17.5) due to an error saying 'No
CDROM device found" after booting the DVD.
Does anybody know a solution please?

 Best Regards,
Mihai Sorin Dobrescu
