snip not intel, (they did not go back in time and screw with old chipsets) the Linux kernel from 2.6.19 on... but his problem is a much older kernel, and the install kernel at that. > Hello, > > I've a new mainboard, ASUS P5B with JMicron controller. > I can't install Mandriva 2007 (with kernel 2.6.17.5) due to an error > saying 'No CDROM device found" after booting the DVD. > Does anybody know a solution please? > > Best Regards, > Mihai Sorin Dobrescu it would help to have a little better description of just where along the install and exactly what the error says, and confirm that you did a cold boot to start up with the cdrom, so the installers is in a ramdisk? we really need to know the MoBo chipset before more accurate troubleshooting, but have you checked the 2007 errata? http://qa.mandriva.com/twiki/bin/view/Main/MandrivaLinux2007Errata if that don't work; http://mandrivausers.org/lofiversion/index.php/t35416.html you may have to pass the kernel config (when it says enter for install or f1 for other options, pick the f1... ) or maybe you got a fsck'd dvd-drive or dvd iso burn? Mihai Dobrescu: I've downloaded the MDV 2007 ISO DVD, I've burn it, I've bought a brand new box, I've started installing from the DVD. After DVD boot, in the MDV install GUI I've chosen Installation or Installation no ACPI. Installation starts detecting devices and mounting disks I guess. Then it doesn't recognize the DVD drive and displays the 'No CDROM device found' message. Ain't that sweet??:| -- reg.
