Actually I have a solution.
Put an ISO from the DVD to a HDD, but not an IDE HDD that you can't access, pu
it on a SATA one.
Then boot from the DVD. The BIOS recognizes the the CD/DVD unit, so it boots,
and after the kernel is loaded it won't recognize the DVD/CD.
Then you choose from the bottom of the installer GUI (some advanced
installation features) to install from the ISO on the HDD (you must point to
the folder containing the ISO image, introduce the path by hand).
Install, finish installation, but you don't have access to the DVD/CD due to
the kernel.
Download from cooker the latest kernel and it will see the HDD/CD/DVD on the
IDE, you'll be back to 'normal'.
I have downloaded the kernel called kernel-2.6.17.9mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586.rpm.
Install also sources:kernel-source-stripped-2.6.17.9mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586.rpm,
or the stripped ones kernel-source-2.6.17.9mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586.rpm.
You might need them to build nVidia drivers for example.
Additionally you could install kernel-doc-2.6.17.9mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586.rpm.
You can just use package installer so nicely embedded in the KDE by Mandriva.
You input the su password after double clicking on the package and installs
into the boot and boot manager. Then you could boot form it. I don't recommend
to uninstall the original one. In the past I had trouble after.
I'm sure they will provide a fix or a cd to make the installation soon.

Good luck!
