Have you tried the newest XFree86?
I had some issues with both FreeBSD and Linux, with my Geforce 2 cards
as soon as i updated XFree86 they all went bye bye.
I am not sure on the tools that are with 7.0 I have RH 7.1 dual booting
with 2k pro, but i also do not resize my desktop really. so i can not
help you out there sorry.
