Thanks for answering my questions Jeremy. You've told me a couple of things:
you're problem involves the AGP version and is apparent in the AMD760
chipset. This is completely different to what I have, so my misery will have
no company (that's a good thing).

Turning acceleration off to get the card to work is similar to what I
resorted to for Windows, but I highly doubt there is any connection.
