Xv is not supported by the Riva 128, indeed... This is chiefly because specs
on the Riva 128 are hard to come by (this is one of the reasons why
long-time Open-Sourcers are a little jaded about nVidia). My only
recommendation is to upgrade your video card (Matrox or ATi recommended, but
a newer nVidia card that works with their bin-only drivers would be OK)

Subject: [Newbie]Xv support for riva 128

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to do software DVD decoding under Linux, with the well known
player called Xine, and it is very, very slow.
I am using :
- Xfree86 4.1.0 (compiled localy with v4l module, the nv driver, and
the fb device driver
- Kernel 2.4.4 (compiled locally with mtrr support enabled and AGPgart
support enabled)
- riva 128 AGP graphic board, with 4Mb RAM.

According to xvinfo, it seems that Xv doesn't support the riva 128. Is
it true? Since Nvidia doesn't provide drivers for procesors older than
riva TNT, do you intend to provide Xv support for my old graphic board?

To increase the performances of my video system when using Xshm, i tried
to set up MTRR, according to the doc provided with the Kernel. The X log
file gives me the following informations:
- Linear Framebuffer at 0xE6000000
- MMIO Registers at 0xE4000000
 - Video RAM 4096 kb

So i set up the MTRR with the Framebuffer adress. It doesn't improve
anything. Do i have to set up the MTRR with the MMIO Registers adress
instead, and if so what should be the size of the memory allocation?

I am also a bit confused by the framebuffer device provided by X? Will
it speed up things if i use it? And how to do so?

And finally, if nothing can be done to speed up my actual stuff, which
boards are the most well supported by X?

Regards, Sebastien.
