This isn't on an NEC Versa VX notebook, by any chance? If so, upgrading to XFree86 4.1.0 would help significantly (I have such a notebook, which is running LFS 2.4.5 with XFree86 4.1.0 perfectly)

The hardware is known good, because all the Linux boot text is beautifully crisp. But when I try "X -ac", I get the message: (--) SVGA: mode 800x600: horizontal sync out of range (sync - display should be between 8 and 24) Can anyone clarify this? The modeline I'm using is: "800x600" 39.06 800 824 896 1024 600 601 603 625 (taken more-or-less directly from NEC's datasheet). I can provide more detail on request (X log, full XF86Config, hardware details, ...) but wanted to keep this initial post short. - Chris Tucker Engineering Director Io Limited CB5 0HT UK +44 (0)1638 742 390 (voice) This email may contain confidential information.
