I have already tried setting the minimum refresh to 85, it simply forces me
to a different mode. However, after doing further research, I found that
the particular chipset I have DOES NOT support 1600x1200x24x85Hz; That mode
is only supported at 60Hz, so it was really my misunderstanding.

I did find a handy site for calculating modelines though.

Thanks for your input.

Hi,
I suspect you don't have the *right* modes in your
section screen.
You should have a subsection display with the depth
and resolution you wish. Then you should set the
default depth to that depth and remove / comment out
any other subsection with the same depth if any are
there.
You can always try to trick your monitor by setting
the minimum refresh to 85 (VertRefresh 85.0-160.0 #
assuming it can take it) in the corresponding line.
According to your XF86Config, you are NOT running VESA
but the i810 driver. I don't know it well but I had
one case when the accel driver only liked 16 or 32
depth but NOT 24. why don't you try 32?
