Subject: [Newbie]Vertical Refresh / Modes questions

Hello, all.

I am running XFree86 4.03 that shipped with RedHat 7.1.  I have an i810 chipset with 16MB ram.  My monitor is a Compaq P110 21" capable of 1600x1200x24bppx85Hz, which the i810 should be able to create.  If I set my DefaultColorDepth to 16 and Modes "1600x1200", X runs fine but my Vertical Refresh is reported as 60.0Hz by xvidtune.  This (as you know) causes an eye-straining flicker.  Also, when I set my DefaultColorDepth to 24 and Modes "1600x1200", X will run fine again, but xvidtune reports the resolution at 1400x1050 and the vertical sync at 59.xx.

My goal here is to run 1600x1200x24bppx85Hz.  How can I tell X to use the 85Hz refresh?  Why is X dropping my resolution to 1400x1050 when I try to run 1600x1200 @ 24bpp?

I think I may have to use the Modes or ModeLine options to override the default VESA modes, but I have no idea how to calculate the correct DotClock, Htimings, etc. to obtain the results I am looking for and I have found no documentation in this area.  Any help or pointers to more in-depth documentation is GREATLY appreciated.  I have attached my XF86Config-4 file for reference.

Thanks
Tim
