Hi,
I am afraid I still don't have a ready solution. I would make a couple of changes to
the file
still:
1. is X using your new XF86Config (I got had in RH7.2 on a laptop: the install program
had created
an additional XF86Config in /root and this one got used first. I was modifying my
/etc/X11/XF86Config and it was having no effect...)
2. something which has little to do with the problem: I would add
load "speedo"
load "type1"
(note the lack of caps)
to the module section.
3. I am uneasy about the lack of a default depth in the screen section
4. In the screen section again, I would feel more confortable with Modes in the
subsections.

btw, is the error still with identifying the card, or has something new surfaced?

cheers
Lionel

PS when nothing helps there is always the option to try the driver "vesa"
unaccelerated :-( and I
think limited in resolution to 1254x1024 (I may be mistaken there) just in order to
get started.
