are you setting these paremeters from X86config from the # prompt? are you certain you have a compatable window manager for you're desktop? are you properly replacing the old config file with the new? have you tried using all default or probing or superprobing? I agree with you sounds like a server or monitor issue, be sure you are using the correct horozontal and vertical frequencies try finding the specs online...I am having plenty of problems myself, sometimes I resolve issues and don't even know how? rookies....for me it is worth the education and a way better OS than an easier alternative....good luck

I use a Tseng ET4000 card with 512k of memory and a Samtron SC428-TXL monitor. I installed the appropriate tseng driver (from the list) and a SVGA monitor capable of 800x600 with 256 colors. Then 'startx' reports: (EE) no screens found. Then i installed 'Generic VGA' with a 'standard' monitor 640x480 with 16 colors. Now 'startx' reports: (--) Chipset generic found (EE) VGA (0): no display subsection in screen section "screen1" for depth/fbbpp 4/4 (EE) screens found, but none have usable configuration. Can someone give me information how to install that monitor with the ET4000 card?
