if you're comfortable enough with modelines, and editing the XF86Config
file; try 'xvidtune', and see if you can generate some usable modelines for
your machine.

it's best to run xvidtune as a remotely-displaying app; because otherwise
when you make your screen unreadable (part of the tuning process...); you'll
have to guess where the buttons are. :)
