OK -- finally just ran f86config with some horizontal and vertical settings from the hp website. I saw the Intel 810 chipset in menu and selected it. I see in my log file that it's now picked these settings up, but it now "Cannot open APM" and it ends with "Fatal server error: AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0". I've seen on google a few posts that have this problem with a slackware 8.0 and XFree86 4.1.0 combo, yet there were no solutions posted.
Anything I can do now? Suggestions? Anyone want to be generous and explain what APM is? cheers, susan -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 04 December 2001 16:35 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [Newbie]XFree86 4.1.0 and intel810 chipset thanks for emailing me back (again) -- you've saved me a bit of time! and this is where I have to admit something embarrassing: I don't know what Xconfigurator is or where to find it. I tried seting up my config file with /usr/X11R6/bin/xfree86Setup, i tried 24-bit color and then 16 bit color but both gave the same error. My monitor is an HP Ultra VGA 1280, and it's at work and i'm sure the manual was lost a long time ago. If there are refresh settings i need to get for this, I'm sure I could look them up. so... should I try xconfigurator (and if so, where is it?) or do I need to edit something directly into my config file? I'll stop asking questions there before I get too vague and annoying. cheers, susan _______________________________________________ Newbie mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie
